LGD Holds First-ever PAG Meeting

The Local Government Division (LGD) under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD& C) held its first-ever Policy Advisory Group (PAG) meeting at LGD Conference Room in Bangladesh Secretaratiate, Dhaka on Tuesday, 4 August, 2015.Chaired by the LGD Secretary Mr. Abdul Malek, a total of nine members out of ten were present at the meeting.

At the meeting, the PAG has decided to bring necessary amendments to its Terms of Reference (ToR) and place at its next meeting for scrutiny and finalization. The group also laid emphasis on the identification of the Rules needed to be formulated and take necessary action to draft, finalize and circular the Rules.

Stressing the need for a PAG under LGD, the LGD Secretary hoped the group will remain functional and regularly hold the meeting to provide suggestion and recommendation in local governance arena.

The Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) and Union Parishad Governance Project (UPGP) under Local Governance Cluster, UNDP Bangladesh, have facilitated formation of PAG aimed at enhancing the policy development function in government and create a coordinated framework for support to the LGI capacity development.

The ten-member PAG will learn a review from the field experience and advocate for change at national level and will play critical role as think-tank of the ministry on key policy issues led by the LGD. The PAG comprised with the representatives of Government, NGOs, CSOs, academicians and LG experts of the country.

The next meeting of the PAG will be held in November this year.
