Newly appointed UNDP Bangladesh Country Director, Mr. Sudipto Mukerjee, made a visit today (Tuesday, 8 November 2016) to Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) office in National Institute of Local Government (NILG), Agargaon, Dhaka.
He made his maiden visit to the project to observe and better understanding the challenges and opportunities the local government in general and the Upazila Parishad (UZP) and UZGP in specific, are facing to make the local government institutions (LGIs) more functional, democratic and accountable entities.
The Country Director (CD) had a meeting with UZGP project team to review the progress and results achieved by the project. Mr. Md. Mozammel Haque, Project Manager, UZGP, made a presentation about the goals, objectives, planned activities and major results of the project achieved so far. The project also displayed the research and study reports, IEC and knowledge products carried out and published by the project.
Mr. Sudipto expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing pace of progress and achievements made by the project and appreciated the project team for its sincere efforts in achieving project’s goals.
He also shared UNDP Bangladesh Country Office strategic priorities in terms of issue-based focus and integrated approach in which Local Government (LG) will be a corner stone.
Ms. Sahila Khan, Assistant Country Director and Business Development Advisor, UNDP Bangladesh and Mr. Sydur Rahman Molla, Programme Analyst, UNDP Bangladesh also accompanied the CD.
