The Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) under Local Government Division (LGD) began today, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 a three-day training for chairs of all 17 Upazila Committees and members of five selected Upazila Committees at National Institute of Local Government (NILG) and Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) simultaneously.
The UZGP has organized the training aimed at improving the capacity of chairs and members of the UZP Committee to carry out their mandated roles and responsibilities for smooth and effective functioning of Upazila Parishad.
Mr. Abdul Malek, Secretary, Local Government Division (LGD), inaugurated the training as chief guest while Mr. Amitavh Sarker, Joint Secretary, LGD and Focal Person, UZGP as special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abdul Malek said that an effective functioning of UZP committees is a must for a pro-poor service delivery and strengthening local democracy.
“Effective functioning of UZP committees is vital as formulating priority-based sector-wise planning with long-term development vision is their prime task. I hope, after getting the training, the participants will be enriched and contribute better in planning and implementing the development targets at grassroots which will have direct impact on national development goals and outcomes,” he added.
Through the training, the chairs and members of the UZP committee will be oriented on Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the committees to hold the meeting in compliance with legal procedure, judiciously picking development priorities and to set recommendations to place before Upazila Parishad for annual and long-term plan. They will also learn how to prepare notice, working paper and minutes of the committee meeting and setting agenda meticulously.
A total of 3423 participants including chairs and member-secretaries of five selected UZP committees of 487 UZPs across the country will take part in the training in 56 batches.
