A three-day training on “Financial Management, Audit and Public Procurement Rules (PPR)” for key functionaries of Upazila Parishad (UZP) began on Tuesday, 4 August, 2015 at Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Dhaka.
The Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) under Local Government Dision (LGD) is organizing the training for the elected public representatives and government officials at Upazila level to enhance their skills and capacity on finance, audit and public procurement rules (PPR) aimed at making the UZPs more effective and functional.
Mr. Saurendra Nath Chakrabartty, Additional Secreatry, LGD and National Project Diector (NPD), UZGP and Mr. Shahidul Islam, Joint Secreatry, LGD and Focal Person, UZGP, were also present at the inaugural session of the training.
The Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Dhaka is conducting the training.
A total of 2532 elected public representatives and government officials at UZP level including UZP Chairs, Vice-Chairs, Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO), Upazila Enginers (LGED) and UZP Project Implementation Officers (PIO) of 422 UZPs under 57 districts across the country are going to take part in the training in 61 batches.
The training is expected to end by December this year.
The European Union (EU), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the United Nations Development (UNDP) are providing technical and financial assistance to the project. The five-year project, started in 2012, is being implemented by the LGD, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD &C).
